Breastfeeding: a little, a lot, passionately

Breast milk is almost magical: it naturally adapts to Baby's needs.
Yet breastfeeding isn't always straightforward: between the pressure, the misconceptions and the co-parent's role, things don't always go to plan. And there are a thousand and one ways to feed Baby, somewhere between 100% formula and 100% breastfeeding.

So all we wish for you, Mama, is that you have access to every possible resource to make a free and informed choice — whether that choice is to breastfeed or not.

The Ebook on milk and babies (in french)

We could have made a podcast, or even a full documentary,
but we thought we'd start
with a magazine to tell you all about "Milk & Babies".
⁣
This magazine is the one we wish we'd had to
help us find our way: breast milk, baby formula, breast pump, mixed or induced feeding…
Milk from every angle, because there are 1,000 ways to be a parent.

Understanding the physiology of breastfeeding

OK, biology classes feel like a distant memory, but it seems no one ever really explained how breastfeeding actually works.
So let's go back to basics: breast anatomy, how hormones work, the physiological bond between mother and child… Everything you need to become (almost) an expert on breastfeeding.

Breastfeeding or bottle: the co-parent's role

We wanted to address all those legitimate "I'm worried about excluding the other parent if I breastfeed" concerns. Because we understand it can be a very real fear.
We offer a different perspective on the subject, to help you step back and think about the place given to the co-parent, whether breastfeeding or not!

Common myths about breastfeeding

Top 3 fears we hear from expectant mothers: breastfeeding hurts, a breastfed baby never sleeps, and I won't have enough milk.
We separate fact from fiction so that your choice to breastfeed or not is free from preconceived ideas.

To each their own breastfeeding journey

Breastfeeding isn't only at the breast.
And bottle-feeding isn't always 100%.
We often think it's one or the other, but between mixed feeding (or partial breastfeeding), exclusive or partial pumping… there are 1,000 ways to be a parent!

And when things don't go as planned!

You had planned for everything… just not this.
The path to parenthood is sometimes (often?) full of surprises, so we also talk about the little hiccups that can happen — so you're prepared if they do. It'll be alright.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions from our customers and community

Can you freeze the products?

Our (delicious) little purées have been cooked and then sterilised (heated to a high temperature) to ensure their preservation.
You can freeze them without any problem by following a few guidelines (the ingredients may however lose a little of their flavour):

  • Do not place the pouch directly in the freezer, as its structure may be affected by freezing.
  • Pour them into a suitable container first (an ice cube tray, for example), or cook them before freezing.
  • Never refreeze a product that has already been defrosted.

Parent tip: use our little pouches to cook recipes for your baby, then freeze them to keep them for longer!

Once opened, how long does the pouch keep?

Once opened, fruits, vegetables and yogurt-style pouches keep for 48 hours in the fridge, and 36 hours for little meals and meat/fish. And of course, you can freeze the rest of your pouches by pouring them into an ice cube tray — perfect for making handy little portions ready to whip out when Baby is hungry.

Should you add fat to your products?

There is no added fat in our pouches (except in the complete little meals).
And as you might expect, fat is essential for Baby! You can therefore add one teaspoon of oil per day between 4 and 12 months, and 2 teaspoons between 12 and 36 months, into the purée after warming it up.

Can you warm up the pouches?

Just like glass baby food jars, our pouches can be warmed up. At Popote, we recommend pouring the contents of your pouches into a suitable container before heating in the microwave or in a bain-marie. Make sure to check the temperature of the food before giving it to your baby.
WARNING: never put the pouch directly in the microwave. Never store a pouch whose contents have already been warmed up in its packaging.
