Questions about our organic purées and compotes for Baby? About your Popote order? About Baby's diet? We've compiled answers to your most frequently asked questions.

How can we help you?

Banana compote, cherry compote, fig compote…All our fruit compotes for baby contain no added sugars; the sugars naturally present in fruit are excellent for Baby.

A little tip: during the first two weeks of weaning, go for vegetable purées fruit pouches for Baby so they don't turn their nose up at savoury foods!

The more, the merrier!

"6 months" means "from 6 months". Children aged 8, 10 or 12 months can therefore perfectly enjoy these products. The key is to adapt Baby's diet according to their age! Meals for a 6-month-old will not be the same as for a 12-month-old.

And if you'd like to add a bit of texture and something to chew on, we suggest taking a look at our baby recipe ideas !

During of the first weeks of weaning, let your baby try some baby vegetable purées plain; start with purées of carrots, of green beans or of squash for example, tailored to Baby's young age.

To make sure you don't miss a food allergy, offer your baby the same ingredient two days in a row, so that if the situation arises, you can quickly identify the problem ingredient.

Depending on the food in question, symptoms to watch for include vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, a hives reaction, slight swelling of the lips and tongue, eczema on the body, asthma, or recurring ENT infections.

Not sure? Have your baby checked by your paediatrician.

Organic lemon juice is a natural antioxidant — it allows us to use a gentler heat treatment during cooking to preserve the flavour of some of our ingredients.

Sometimes, our fruit pouches need a little apple… Why?

Because apple helps balance the flavours and textures of our baby compotes. Because without apple, the raspberry they're sharp, and blueberries are seriously runny!
But don't worry, our raspberry still tastes like raspberry, and our blueberries are always quite liquid… because we only add a little, so as not to mask the true taste of the fruit.

And of course there's one with A LOT of apple in it… And isn't it delicious, this Popote apple for Baby, made with 100% good organic apples!

Ascorbic acid is an antioxidant used in the processing of the most delicate fruits to help preserve them and prevent browning. We add a tiny amount of ascorbic acid to our Popote Peach and Apricot pouches so that Baby can enjoy them without worry and to comply with current infant food regulations.

We offer a discovery pack to try our Popote products.

Our baby pouches are also available individually on the eshop with no minimum purchase. So you can perfectly place a first order with just a few products, to let Baby discover and try our compotes and purées.

Also, if you're still unsure about your first Popote order (whether it's about the ingredients in our purées and compotes or even their use for example) we are here to answer your questions. Some of the answers can be found on the Popote FAQ.

All our baby purées and compotes are available individually on the Popote e-shop. There is no minimum purchase amount (nor a maximum 😉!).

We also offer asubscription, to have your 100% organic baby meals delivered to your door.

None of our pouches contain traces of cow's milk proteins, except our plain stirred pouch, vanilla stirred pouch, porridge, our little meals and possibly our beef and veal pouches.

But no need to panic! We've thought of everything with our plant-based stirred pouches: maximum discovery with theOat-Apple and the Coconut-Banana for babies with CMPA (please note, they contain little calcium). Please note: the Goat's Milk Stirred Pouch contains no cow's milk, but cross-allergies between goat's milk and cow's milk do exist.

Psst, all our machines are cleaned before each new production run, so there's no risk of cross-contamination.

All our baby recipes are validated by a paediatric nutritionist-dietitian before being posted. The age and quantities correspond to babies' average needs according to their age; if your child does not seem ready to discover new textures or flavours, do not force it and speak to your paediatrician.

If you'd like to share your finds to enrich the Popote recipe database in the Popote Minute, feel free to suggest them by sending an email to bonjour@popote-bb.fr!

You can also find menu ideas for Baby through our Baby recipe book.

Popote is the ideal ally for introducing meat into your baby's diet.

A 60g protein pouch contains 30g of meat or fish (half the pouch). For quantities:
1/3 of a pouch (20g) = 10g of protein, from 6 months
2/3 of a pouch (40g) = 20g of protein, from 10/12 months
1 pouch (60g) = 30g of protein, from 24 months

Good news for those with intolerances — unlike some baby jar brands, there's no gluten in our fruit, vegetable and meat pouches for baby!

Please note: the Bulgur Wheat & Cauliflower Mouli, the Lentil & Red Kuri Squash Mouli, the Porridge, the Oat & Apple Stirred Pouch, and the Little Pasta Pieces with Mushrooms may contain gluten.

And you can also find gluten-free recipe ideas for baby on our Popote Minute.

We take no risks at Popote when it comes to baby nutrition!

We surrounded ourselves with a team of experts to design our range of organic purées and compotes for baby. All our products were validated beforehand by Dr Bellaïche, paediatrician at Robert Debré Hospital in Paris, and by Dr Pescot, dietitian-nutritionist at the same establishment.

If you still have any doubts, don't hesitate to seek advice from your paediatrician or doctor — they will be best placed to answer your questions.

How do we choose the products we put in our little pouches? They need to be organic, and good for baby (in every sense of the word!).

We use ingredients from organic farming that meet the standards of the baby food sector (which are very strict, and rightly so!), which is why we have to adapt to what is produced. Origins may therefore change from one production run to the next, but we always prioritise French or European products (all our baby meats are French, for example). For the fruit and the vegetables, we choose flavourful varieties (that will stay that way after cooking). Of course we have to source our exotic fruits such as mangoes and bananas a little further afield, but these are exceptions.

All our Popote products are made in the North-West of France, allowing us to benefit from the precious expertise of a long-established baby food manufacturer.

Our baby purées and compotes are certified organic, except for our Alaskan pollock, which we have chosen to source wild-caught.

At Popote, we want to make sure we only offer the very best to our babies, which is why all our meats, fruits and vegetables come from organic farming. Our entire product range is certified by the French organic certification body ECOCERT FR-BIO-01.

Our obsession: making Popote taste good, good, GOOD!

We add organic mashed potato (organic, of course!) to some of our vegetable or protein pouches, to balance the flavours or textures for baby, as for example in our baby squash purée.
No cutting corners here — otherwise we wouldn't bother offering you pouches with 70% artichoke in it! 🙂

Rest assured, the main ingredient will always be the absolute priority in the recipe, and when we can do without apple (for the sweet potato, the sweetcorn, the parsnip for example), we do it!

Don't panic! It does sometimes happen that DPD makes this kind of mistake, and even though it's unfortunately not something we caused, we're here to help.

Our (delicious) little purées have been cooked and then sterilised (heated to a high temperature) to ensure their preservation.
You can freeze them without any problem by following a few guidelines (the ingredients may however lose a little of their flavour):

  • Do not place the pouch directly in the freezer, as its structure may be affected by freezing.
  • Pour them into a suitable container first (an ice cube tray, for example), or cook them before freezing.
  • Never refreeze a product that has already been defrosted.

Parent tip: use our little pouches to cook recipes for your baby, then freeze them to keep them for longer!

Like baby food jars or tinned goods, our baby pouches keep for several months at room temperature.

The BBD (best before date) is printed on each of our pouches and depends on the production date. Regardless of when you order, we guarantee a minimum of 2 months between the dispatch date and the end of the BBD. The BBDs are also listed on the product pages for baby purées and compotes at the time of your order on the website.

Enjoy!

At Popote, we recommend pouring the contents of our pouches into a suitable container before heating in the microwave or in a bain-marie. Always check the temperature of the food before giving it to Baby.

WARNING: never put the pouch directly in the microwave. Never store a pouch whose contents have already been heated in its packaging.

From 4 months !

It's the age of start of weaning. No need to panic — this age can vary depending on your baby's growth curve, appetite, development, or certain conditions such as reflux (which can lead to early weaning). Your baby's paediatrician will be able to advise you.

Our advice: trust yourself. As a parent, you know your child's needs better than anyone.

Please note, the WHO (World Health Organisation) recommends exclusive breastfeeding until 6 months.

Find all our advice on feeding your Baby.

At Popote, we offer from 4 months the banana compote, the apricot compote or even the carrot purée (and much more!).

Until they're 100 if they fancy it!

Jokes aside, our Popote products are ideal for starting weaning with baby from 4 months.

As they grow, we recommendintroducing new textures into Baby's diet, by adding for example some small pasta to a Popote vegetables.

From 36 months, Baby eats like a big kid. Even if Popote products are no longer part of their main diet, they can still come in handy as an on-the-go snack for a weekend walk or a family holiday.

Once opened, fruits, vegetables and yogurt-style pouches keep for 48 hours in the fridge, and 36 hours for little meals and meat/fish. And of course, you can freeze the rest of your pouches by pouring them into an ice cube tray — perfect for making handy little portions ready to whip out when Baby is hungry.

Yes, you can absolutely take Popote products on a plane when going on holiday with Baby !

This is actually one of the advantages of our little baby pouches, which are a portable version of the classic little jar.

A little apricot compote and off you go — travelling with Baby is going to go just fine!

Once prepared, baby formula can easily become a source of bacterial growth. It should therefore be kept for no more than 1 hour at room temperature, and a maximum of 5 hours in the refrigerator at 4°C.

Once made up, baby formula can quickly become a source of bacterial growth. It should therefore be kept for no more than 1 hour at room temperature, and a maximum of 5 hours in the refrigerator at 4°C.

Ideally, give the bottle at room temperature or slightly warm. That said, you can heat the water a little to help the powder dissolve more easily. Don't go above 40°C, as it could burn your baby. Always test the temperature on the inside of your wrist before feeding.

The powdered milk tin can be kept for a maximum of 4 weeks after opening, tightly sealed in a cool, dry place.

Before 6 months, not all water is suitable for Baby. You can give mineral water or spring water.
According to ANSES, good water for babies contains:
– nitrates: <10 mg/L
– sulphates: <140 mg/L
– calcium: <100mg/L
– magnesium: <50 mg/L
– fluoride: <10 mg/L

Tap water can also be used, but it is recommended to follow these guidelines:
– first check the local water quality to make sure it is safe for your baby to drink
– let the water run for a few seconds before taking the desired amount
– use only cold water (hot water contains more microbes and minerals)
– clean the tap head regularly
– do not use water that has been filtered or softened (these treatments encourage microbial growth)

The number of bottles depends on your baby's age and weight.

Popote baby formula tins weigh 800g. You can make approximately 40 bottles of 120ml, around 26 bottles of 180ml, and 21 bottles of 240ml.

In case of constipation, it is advisable to give your baby a little water between meals. Choose a low-mineral water.

To help Baby get used to their new baby formula, we recommend making the transition gradually.
A few tips to keep in mind:

  • Choose a baby formula that matches Baby's age (if you're using a follow-on formula, stick with a follow-on formula, for example).
  • Take it step by step so Baby can adjust to their new baby formula: 1 bottle of the new formula on day 1, 2 bottles of the new formula on day 2, and so on depending on the number of bottles per day.
  • Another method approved by our favourite nutritionist Loetitia Pescot: mix your old and new baby formula during the transition — 1/3 new milk, then 1/2, then 2/3… until you reach a 100% new milk bottle! If in doubt, pop in to see your favourite health professional.
  • You can also add a little fruit compote or vegetable purée to the bottles to help Baby ease from one milk flavour to another — because it's often the change in taste that throws little tummies off.
  • The adjustment period varies from one baby to another and can take several days.

This packaging is practical and eco-friendly. Everything is recyclable — simply place it in your recycling bin.

It is strongly advised against putting a tin of formula in the freezer, as this causes the fats present to deteriorate.

It is not compulsory — you can perfectly well give a bottle at room temperature or lukewarm. However, reconstitution is easier when the water is heated.

Sometimes, switching formula may be necessary — whether for medical reasons (allergies, digestive issues) or out of personal conviction (you'd prefer to switch to an organic or palm oil-free formula, for example).

It is advisable to make this transition gradually. Every formula is different, not only in its composition but also in its texture, so a progressive transition will help your baby get used to the new formula.

First and foremost, speak to a paediatrician who will guide you in choosing a baby formula that meets your baby's needs.

For 2 to 3 days, alternate every other bottle between the old and new formula. If the formula suits your baby, you can then move on to the new formula exclusively.

Giving growing-up milk to a child under 3 who is already eating a varied diet helps to complement their nutritional intake, particularly by meeting their needs for iron, essential fatty acids, vitamin D and zinc. Growing-up milks are better suited to babies at this age than cow's milk.

To find out everything about stage 3 milk, find our article here.

Popote baby formula is a no-nonsense, fuss-free formula that supports all kinds of parenting.
Our milk is:

SAFE: a clear and transparent formula developed by an expert in organic baby formula.

CLEAN: caring for the planet — organic, made in France, and palm oil-free.

BY YOUR SIDE: and which, of course, supports all types of parenting and champions free and informed choice.

If you'd like to find out more, you can take a look at our page: Popote ORGANIC baby formula

We have chosen not to include palm oil in our baby formulas. Fats and fatty acids are essential for Baby's healthy development. In our milks, you'll find vegetable oils (organic, of course) and cream, but no palm oil. Palm oil (rich in palmitic acid, an essential component of breast milk) is, due to its overuse, a driver of deforestation in many countries.

The stage 2 follow-on formula is recommended until 12 months, whereas stage 3 growing-up milk is available from 10 months… which baby formula to choose between 10 and 12 months?

It all depends on your baby's needs. If they have made a good start with weaning, you can move on to stage 3 from 10 months. If not, stick with stage 2, to make sure all their nutritional needs are fully covered.

Our baby formula is made in France using French cow's milk! Since breast milk is very different from cow's milk, the formula needs to be reworked to meet the specific nutritional needs of infants. So we remove, add, adjust, and analyse (a lot)… before arriving at the powdered baby formula you use every day without a second thought to delight your little one!

STEP 1: Skimming & pasteurisation of the milk

It all starts with raw milk, sourced directly from French farms. We analyse it to make sure it's safe for your baby's health.
We then separate the fat from the whole milk: on one side we get skimmed milk, on the other, cream.
We heat it to a very high temperature very quickly, then cool it just as fast — this eliminates any micro-organisms that could be harmful to your baby.

STEP 2: Milk filtration

Cow's milk contains three times more protein than breast milk. If babies consumed it as it is, it wouldn't be great for their kidneys. Since cow's milk isn't suited to babies' nutritional needs, it can't be used on its own — its composition needs to be reworked.
A large portion of the milk is filtered, re-filtered, and re-re-filtered to achieve the ideal protein and mineral composition. The result is demineralised whey (yes, that's the complicated name you see on the label!).
We analyse again.

STEP 3: Concentration and drying

We then add other ingredients derived from milk (lactose, milk permeate, cream), as well as vegetable oils to provide the right levels of carbohydrates and fats. We also add vitamins and minerals (those that weren't present in sufficient quantities to meet your baby's needs).
This entire liquid preparation is then dried to obtain a powder.
We analyse again.

STEP 4: Dry blending

We add the most sensitive ingredients that would not have retained all their nutritional qualities during the previous steps.
We analyse once more (we did warn you there would be a lot of analysing).

STEP 5: Packaging

All that's left is to measure out the right amount of powder per tin. We add the scoop, clipped inside the lid.
And there you have it — the tin of formula just as you know it.
One final analysis for good measure, and the tins of baby formula are ready to join the families who use them.

The milk comes from cows raised in France on small, human-scale farms. The milk collected comes mainly from the South-West and the Massif Central, and occasionally from the South-East. The cows are fed primarily on fodder and grass, and are raised in accordance with animal welfare standards and organic farming practices.

DHA is an essential fatty acid found in breast milk, which is added to baby formula. It is essential for the proper development and functioning of the brain and eyesight. It is introduced into baby formula through vegetable oils and fish or algae oils respectively. The addition of DHA to formulas became mandatory in 2020. DHA is naturally present in oily fish in the diet, and can be of plant origin from the Schizochytrium algae.

Breast milk is the best thing for your Baby. We'll never come close to it, and we'll always be the first to say so loud and clear. That's why you'll never see any communication about infant formula for 0 to 6 months, here or anywhere else. The WHO also recommends exclusive breastfeeding until Baby is 6 months old.

We could have gone with the small jar format. But our baby pouches guarantee optimal preservation of ingredients, with no additional additives. More practical and lightweight to carry (unlike small jars), they are designed to make your life easier. With their various formats tailored to your baby's nutritional needs, our little pouches will turn mealtime prep into child's play. And the cherry on the (green) bean — they quickly help Baby become independent at snack time.

We are fully aware that plastic pouches are not ideal from a packaging consumption standpoint — though they are very practical for storing and transporting.
All our pouches and their caps can go straight into the recycling bin.

But that's far from enough, and we are looking to go further in our eco-responsible efforts and find a partner to give our products a second life.

Our pouches protect ingredients from air and light (unlike traditional glass baby food jars), they undergo a battery of tests to always be at their best, and are guaranteed BPA-free, in compliance with regulations. Food safety for babies — at Popote, it's our thing!

Our packaging is made up of 5 layers to ensure both the preservation and food safety of our products.
1. Matt varnish
2. Polyethylene
3. Aluminium
4. Oriented polyamide
5. Polypropylene
The layer in contact with food is made of Polypropylene (the same material used for the straw).

As you can imagine, infant regulations are highly regulated and very strict (rightly so!) — particularly regarding substances permitted and prohibited in packaging. For example, Bisphenol A and Diethylene glycol adipate are banned. Beyond the regulatory framework, we have chosen to remove certain substances that are nonetheless permitted, and we push our suppliers to make additional commitments on the non-use of certain substances (such as PFOA and PFOS).
With each new supplier, each new piece of legislation, and once a year, we carry out analyses to verify that the regulatory framework as well as our additional commitments are being properly upheld by our suppliers.

All our pouches (and their caps) can go straight into the recycling bin.

Our watchword: BABY'S SAFETY. The cap on our baby purée and compote pouches is large because it is an anti-choking cap.

We all know it — babies love putting all sorts of objects in their mouths. We must keep them safe.

PS: with Popote caps, you can even turn them into little fine motor skills games for your baby.
